The Venerable William Yate Daykin (1832-1915) graduated from Jesus College, Cambridge, was Curate, Dipford, Devon, 1856-1858, and was ordained in 1858, serving as Priest-in-Charge, Stoke Fleming, Devon, 1859-1868. He was Curate, Sheepstor, Devon, 1868-1875, before travelling to South Africa where he served as Incumbent at St. Cyprians, Durban, 1875-1877 and sometime Archdeacon of Durban. Contracting fever, he moved to Ontario, Canada for relief, becoming Incumbent of Madoc, 1884-1887, Rector of Pembroke, 1887-1889, and Missionary (Clarendon and Palmerston (Sydenham)), 1890-1891. He was canvasser for the See House, Diocese of Ottawa, 1892-1896, Incumbent, St. Margaret's, Janeville, 1896-1898, and of Vankleek Hill, 1898-1900. On his retirement, he lived in Kingston, before taking temporary charge at Mattawa, 1903-1905 and assisting at St. James, Kingston, 1905. He was married twice, to Mary Frces and Hannah Olmsted, and had four sons.

Esca Brooke Daykin (1868-1953) was born in Sarawak, son of Charles Brooke, 2nd Rajah, and adopted by William Yate Daykin. Moving to Ontario, he graduated from Queens University, Kingston, served as a lay missionary in Mattawa, from 1892. From c1896 he lived in Janeville, working as a clerk, floorwalker and window dresser. He is listed as a salesman in Ottowa in 1909. By 1913 he was living in Toronto and was eventually employed as Private Secretary to David Dunlap, lawyer, mine owner, Methodist and liberal. In 1897 he married Edith Webster, with whom he had one son and three daughters.
