Album containing postcards and photographs of soldiers during the First World War belonging to Winifred E. Parr, including images of the General Hospital, Nottingham; 1910-1919

The album contains 40 postcards scattered throughout the pages, suggesting that some have been removed over the years. The inside cover of the album includes an inscription to 'Winnie' from 'Aunty Lilla', 25 May 1905.

Most of the photographs cannot be identified. A large number are group shots of soldiers and nurses in various locations, presumed to be around the General Hospital.

A number of postcards are portraits of individual soldiers labelled as: 'Frank Butterworth', 'H. Sleet (Coldstream Guards)', 'L/c Coxhead', 'F. Sayer'. Many images were taken by Ballingall, Nottingham.

Postcard from Sam Palmer, British Prisoner of War Camp, Nurnberg to F. Parr, 230 Gladstone Street, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham, with image of 14 British prisoners; 10 Oct. 1917

Postcard from A Sims, Bottesford to Mrs Parr, 92 Exter [Exeter] Road, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham with image of Tower of London; 10 Aug. 1910

Postcard with image of soldiers inscribed on reverse: 'The Muscle Factory of the 1st Sherwood Foresters Commonley known as The Hungry Hounds of 'b' bay Total Service 150 years'.

There are also three loose images of Tom R.S. Noble and three images of an unidentified civic dignitary with civic chain. (MS 866/1-7).

The album includes at least one postcard addressed to Fred Parr (James Frederick Parr, b.1871), who was a lithographer and keen photographer and Mrs Parr. His two daughters worked as nurses during the war. An inscription in the cover suggests the album was owned by one of his daughters, Winifred Elsie Parr (b. 1900).

No archival arrangement has been necessary.
