BOOK PLATE: The Steel four masted barque Oweenee, Captain Robert Jones of Amlwch at Newcastle N. S. W. in 1909.

Administrative / Biographical History

Aled Eames was born at Llandudno in 1921. He served as a seaman aboard H.M.S. Narcissus in WW2. He took a degree in history and was a lecturer in Education at University College of North Wales, Bangor. He is the author of a number of studies in maritime history.

Oweenee was a steel four-masted barque built in 1891 by Richardson, Duck & Co., Stockton. Around 1916 she was sold to Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co. and converted into a twin-screw motor tanker and re-named Ortina Shell.
