Administrative / Biographical History

The Chepstow Water Company was formed on 21st March 1836 as The Chepstow Waterworks Company. It was incorporated on 11th April 1843. In 1917, it absorbed the Pwllmeyric Water Company and in 1919 the Tidenham Water Works Ltd. The company was superceded in 1960 by the Newport and South Monmouthshire Water Board. Gwent Water Board was founded in 1969 to provide water for the whole of Monmouthshire. In 1974, it was replaced by the Welsh Water Authority.
