Papers of Gwilym Prysor

The collection consists of songs and poems composed for variousspecial occasions; sermons preached on the opening of a chapel inDolwyddelan; a letter from Gwilym Prysor to the Baroness Willoughby de Eresby; an address on the moral deterioration ofWales; essays on various subjects; and a draft of the poem Meirionnydd.

Also included are essays written by John Parry Hughes and R. R. Hughes, Dolwyddelan, and a collection of verses by Robert P. Hughes of Bangor, Pennsylvania, United States, sons of Gwilym Prysor.

William Hughes, cobbler, was also known by his bardic name, Gwilym Prysor. Born in 1826, he lived in Dolwyddelan, Caernarfonshire and was the father of Rev. William Pari Huws, Dolgellau.

The papers were received by the Department at two separateoccasions and as a result, they have been catalogued as twoseparate groups within the General Collection of BangorManuscripts. There is no apparent system of arrangement.

The second group of papers were given to the Department by thenephew of Gwilym Prysor, Dr G. Pari-Huws of Old Colwyn, Denbighshire.
