Administrative / Biographical History

This bank was founded in about 1808 as Margesson, Henty, Henty & Hopkins. From 1829 it traded as Henty, Upperton & Olliver and it was also known as the Worthing & Sussex Bank. Branches were established at Arundel (1808), Steyning (1827), Horsham (1839), Littlehampton (1859) and Crawley (1885). The business was acquired by Capital & Counties Bank (est. 1877) in 1896.
