James Flamank: Poetry Commonplace Book

The volume contains poems, possibly by another member of the family, 1786-1806, including 'The following Ode is performed annually on the Evening of the 4th of June at Vauxhall Gardens', 'An Ode on Reason. 1787', 'Stanzas on the Botany Bay scheme. 1786', 'The Volunteer Infantry Drill', and 'Song, sung at a meeting of the Wallingford Corps June 4th'. The book also contains poems by Flamank, 1819-39, including 'The progress of sculpture a classic ode written for the Chancellor's Gold Medal', 'A translation from Homer's Odyssey, written in the Senate House at Cambridge for the Examiners of Craven's Scholars' (1823), 'Hannibal looking on Italy from the Alps', 'The Muffiad, a burlesque address to the Sisters at Ropley Hants' (1832), 'The converted Jew', and 'Lines written on the noble conduct of the St. Ives pilots and fishermen' (1839).
