Administrative / Biographical History

Guy Aldred was an anarchist and political propagandist. He wrote and published a stream of pamphlets, books, and journals, and set up a number of printing presses, from the Bakunin Press in London (1907) to the Strickland Press in Glasgow (1939–1968).

The books and pamphlets are arranged alphabetically by author. The serials are arranged separately in alphabetical order.

Acquisition Information

The library was purchased from John Taylor Caldwell following the death of Guy Aldred and the closure of the Strickland Press in 1968. Later additions have been made.

Custodial History

The pamphlets originally formed the private library of Guy Alfred Aldred (1886-1963).
