Administrative / Biographical History
Walter Frank Perkins (1865-1946) studied at the Royal Agricultural College at Cirencester, 1883-5, after which he joined his father's business as a surveyor. Perkins was MP for the New Forest, 1910-22, and Honorary Treasurer of the University College of Southampton, 1928-35. His interest in agricultural books led to formation of the Perkins Agricultural Library, which he gave to the University College of Southampton shortly before his death, and to his well-known bibliography BRITISH AND IRISH WRITERS ON AGRICULTURE (Lymington, 1929).
