Collection of railway plans from various British railway companies, 1826-1900

Plans 1826-1900 including :  

• Bolton, Wigan and Liverpool Railway ;
• Wishaw and Coltness Railway ;
• Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway;
• Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway ;
• Slamannan Railway ;
• Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway;
• Caledonian Railway ;
• Eastern and Western Railway ;
• The collection also includes commercially printed railway maps of Great Britain and of England and Wales.

From early in the nineteenth century, many railway companies, small and large, were set up to serve Scottish iIndustry as well as the needs of passengers. Plans relating to a number of these companies have been brought together in this collection by Dr J R Kellet, Reader in the Department of Economic History at the University of Glasgow. The collection was presumably used during the academic research and for his The Impact of Railways on Victorian Cities.

The arrangement of this material reflects the original order in which it was received.
