Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The firm of Ferguson Shaw & Sons commenced trading in around 1843 . They were incorporated on 27 May 1953. They acted as manufacturers of fish oils, edible and compound fats and lubricating oils and had a number of subsidiaries concerned with the manufacture of soap. These included James Howie & Co Ltd , Sadler & Co (Glasgow) Ltd , James Young & Sons (Springfield) Ltd and the Gleniffer Soap Co Ltd . Between 1864 and 1892 the firm was operating from premises at 39 Stockwell Street, Glasgow. By 1904 they had moved to 130-136 Bishop Street, Port Dundas, Glasgow, and by 1929 they had opened their Imperial Oil Works at 19 Tyndrum Street, Port Dundas, Glasgow, where they remained until they ceased trading in 1994 .
