Papers of Myllin Literary and Debating Society

Scope and Content

Comprises 15 issues of the magazine produced by the Myllin Literary and Debating Society, February 1898-September 1901.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Myllin Literary and Debating Society of Llanfyllin, Montgomeryshire, produced its first magazine, edited by H.J. Williams, in February 1898. This issue stated that the aim of the magazine, which consisted of the literary contributions of its very young members, was to supplement the work that the society was doing at meetings. This included improvement of members' intellectual abilities and their development as useful citizens and good men and women which will enable us to live side by side in this world, without bitterness and hostility.

Nine issues in this collection, numbers 7-15, were printed and distributed as part of a localised edition of monthly magazines such as Household Words, or The Home Messenger.
