Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
This private bank was formed in 1791 as Toomer, Bunney, Slocock & King in 1791. Its partners were closely connected with the local brewing industry. The business got into difficulties in the 1890s, probably as a result of advances made to finance the development of a smokeless fuel. It was sold to Capital & Counties Bank (est. 1877) in 1895.
