Scope and Content

This collection contains items relating to the poet Jon Glover, and in particular his time as a student at Leeds University. It includes poem and short story drafts, correspondence, and administrative papers relating to the student arts magazine Sixty-One (edited by Glover ca. 1964-1965); and items relating to the 1966 Leeds Student Arts Festival, of which Glover was secretary/organiser.

Comprises: Material relating to "61" or intended for publication in "61", including 15 drafts of poems, short stories and reviews in manuscript, including items by Martin H. Taylor, Bruno Bobak, Jan Adams, Colin Speakman, M. A. Gonzalez, A. J. Sanford, Granville Williams, R. E. Sowden, S. Bentley; 35 typescripts of poems, short stories and a letter to the editor, including items by Lezli Weintrobe, Terry Brindley, Ruth Gleave, M.A. Gonzalex, Marjorie Battcock, Jeff, A. R. Chardwick, Les Arnold, B. Maude, Douglas Sandle, Peter Redgrove and Andrew F. Tudor, with annotations in manuscript; miscellaneous items of correspondence, 3 in manuscript, 10 typed (not for publication); miscellaneous material including accounts and invoices; 11 stapled issues of "61", 1963-66, incomplete; an issue of "Ikon", vol. 1, no. 4, March 1966 (Arts Festival edition); 1 bound notebook with press cuttings relating to the Leeds Student Arts Festival 1966, (8 ff., rest blank); and a collection of magazines, largely published by student societies at Leeds University in the 1960s.

Administrative / Biographical History

The poet and academic, Jon Glover, edited "61", a student magazine concerned with the arts, while a postgraduate student at the University of Leeds. He was also involved with "Ikon", an arts magazine published by Leeds University Union, and was secretary of the Leeds Student Arts Festival in 1966.
