Rev. Edward Lloyd (Tegfelyn) Diaries

Scope and Content

Eleven diaries, dating from 1891 to 1902, which provide an extensive view of the life of Tegfelyn as a Methodist minister at Tremadog and later at Bangor - preaching from place to place and visiting the sick. He makes references to the books he is reading and to the Eisteddfod prizes he wins, along with regular comments on the weather. The 1893 diary records his visit to the United States and the 1902 diary contains a list of preaching engagements, 1903 - 1908.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev. Edward Lloyd was a Methodist minister who lived at Prenteg, Tremadog and later at Gatehouse near Bangor, north Wales.

He was also a poet and an author, known by his bardic name, Tegfelyn. A selection of his poetry was published by Carneddog in 1924 and entitled, Tannau Tegfelyn.

In 1893, he visited the United States, sailing from Liverpool on the Majestic.
