An album containing albumen prints, 270 x 220 mm. The volume has a printed title page: 'Photographs of Rolling Stock used on the Government Railways of New South Wales, each description of vehicle being illustrated'. There are no captions. No detailed identification of this volume has been attempted. The following is a summary: 1-35 locomotives; 36-74 passenger coaches; 75 guard's van; 76-80 luggage vans; 82 horse boxes; 83 prison van; 84-94 miscellaneous freight wagons: 88 meat van, 92 'Tiffany's Summer and Winter Car'; 95-96 gunpowder vans; 97 workmen's van; 98-109 uncovered wagons and flats; 110-112 tankers; 113-114 travelling cranes.

The album has suffered severely from water damage: nos. 2-3, 32-33, 42-43 and 46-47 have stuck together and incurred some damage on separation, though not affecting the main subject. The water has also transferred dust on to the surface of some plates.
