Photographs and some official papers relating to work as Agricultural Officer in Sierra Leone and Northern Nigeria.

Administrative / Biographical History

Edward Tilt Holmes was born in 1903 and educated at Westminster School, and Reading University (diploma in agriculture). His career in the Colonial Service began in 1926 when he was appointed to the post of Agricultural Officer in Nigeria. In 1940 he was promoted to Senior Agricultural Officer and he worked in this capacity in Sierra Leone (from 1940) and in Nigeria (from 1944).
