Blue Coat Farm Archive

Scope and Content

Legal documents relating to ownership of a parcel of land in Murton, North Yorkshire, in the Manor of Strensall. The land was initially owned by Robert Ridsdale, and was later the site of ‘Blue Coat Farm’, during which time the land was held in trust for the financial benefit of the Blue Coat and Grey Coat School charities in York. In 1921 the charities sold the farm to the Hopwood family.

Administrative / Biographical History

In 1921 Arthur Hopwood purchased Blue Coat Farm in Murton from the trustees of the Blue Coat and Grey Coat Schools charities, York. The 1911 Census lists Arthur and wife Susannah as already resident at Murton, with Arthur employed as a market gardener.
