Includes posters of South African Mine Workers' Union; ephemera, posters, leaflets relating to the post-deportation campaign in Britain including a menu signed by the Parliamentary Labour Party, 1914 February, posters relating to a demonstration in Hyde Park. Also includes press coverage of McKerrell's campaign as an Independent Labour Party candidate for North-East Rand in 1938.

Administrative / Biographical History
Dave McKerrell was a native of Scotland but emigrated to South Africa where he worked in the Rand mines. He was involved in the 1907 and 1913 strikes: he and other strike leaders were branded as criminals by Jan Smuts. Along with eight others, he was deported from South Africa to Britain in 1914. He later returned to South Africa where he stood for the Independent Labour Party in local elections in 1938.
