The farming estate of Kildalton on the Isle of Islay, Argyll & Bute, Scotland, covers an area of 54,500 acres. The estate was the ancestral home of the Ramsey family who lived in Kildalton House, a stone built mansion set in a deer park. Covering virtually the whole south of the island, the estate was also home to the Port Ellen whisky distillery, founded in the 1820s, formerly owned by the estate and in 2002 a maltings for United Vintners & Distillers . The estate consisted of the mansion house, a dower house, yacht anchorage, a gold course, 50,000 acres of shooting and game land, 8 two-bedroom cottages, fishing waters, 45 farms and most of the houses in the town of Port Ellen on the island. The estates accountants were Kerr, MacLeod and MacFarlan , chartered accountants, Glasgow, Scotland.
