Includes transcripts of: (fo. 6) agreement between Nicholas Fitz Martin, lord of Kemeis, and the free men of Kemeis, both English and Welsh, 1278; (fos 8-9v) exemplification by Richard II, 1378, of award by the council in suit brought by Nicholas de Audeley, reciting various docs; (fos 10-12v) exemplification by Elizabeth I, 14 June 1580, at request of William Gwynne, of inquisitions and other docs re Kemeys, 18 Edward II - 10 Henry IV; (fos 14-15) exemplification by Elizabeth I, 1 Dec. 1580, at request of George Owen, of various docs re Kemeys, 49 Edward III - 6 Henry VII; (fos 16-19v) same, 1599, at request of Owen, of various docs re Kemeys 11 Edward I - 28 Edward III; (fos 20-8) two exemplifications by James I, 1608 and 1610, at request of Owen, of various docs 1 John - 5 Edward IV. Many of the docs are printed or abstracted in works by Owen and others.

Acquisition Information

The manuscript is perhaps the original of Cartae Baroniae de Kemeys, published 1841 by Sir Thomas Phillipps from the MSS of George Carewe of Crowcombe, Somerset. From the Burton Constable sale. Purchased from Messrs Bull and Auvache, 4 Apr. 1891, for 12s.
