Family letters to Thomas George Harriott, Royal Staff Corps, British Army, 1812-14.

Scope and Content

Eighteen letters from members of his family addressed to Lt Thomas George Harriott.

The letters are in the hands of Harriott's father, [also Thomas], his brother William H Harriott, and his sister, Elizabeth Hill. They concern themselves mostly with family matters but digress occasionally into comments on public affairs, London social life, office procedures in the Paymaster General's office, comments on the exhibition of the paintings of Sir Joshua Reynolds and other information concerning the Royal Academy of Arts. Most letters include some meteorological information.

Lt Thomas George Harriott was serving on the staff corps of Arthur Wellesley [Lord Wellington, later duke of Wellington] variously in France, Spain and Portugal.
