Scope and Content

Several hands. (fo. 1) blank; (fo. 1v) 'The description of Cambridge 10.10.11'; (fos 2 and 3) with title-page gone; (fo. 4) text, incomplete at beginning: blazon of arms for the University, colleges, and various officers; (fo. 28) incomplete Latin letter from the University to James I, with an explanatory note in English, all in a later hand; (fos 28v, 29) blank; (fo. 30) conclusion of letter from University to James I, 10 Feb. 1617, in 17th-cent. hand; (fos 30v, 31) copy of letter from James I to the University, 26 Feb. 1617, in gilt and silver lettering on black ground (printed in Cooper, Annals 3, p. 114); (fo. 31v) blank. On sheet of paper at end are notes on the MS, and a transcript of the whole of the letter beginning on fo. 28 in the hand of Thomas Baker. On further sheets are descriptions of variant copies at Emmanuel College MS III.3.1 and BL Add. MS 11720, in hand of R. Bowes. Fo. 5 is gone. Gg.5.21 is another copy.
