Harold Fullard Collection of Atlases

Scope and Content

The collection consists of atlases, and textbooks and journals relating to cartography.

Administrative / Biographical History

Harold Fullard was Cartographic Director of George Philip, publishers, and past chairman of the International Cartographic Association Publications Committee. He was also external examiner for the Diploma in Cartography at Oxford Polytechnic from 1964 - 1982. His personal collection of atlases, textbooks and journals, was assembled over a period of 50 years.

The collection consisted initially of more than 400 internationally published atlases and a similar quantity of other relevant materials. Subsequently the collection has been integrated with the University's collection, the whole, now numbering some 1,200 items, being maintained and added to as the Harold Fullard Collection of Atlases.

Access Information

Before your first visit to the Special Collections Reading Room please complete a Reading Room registration form . The form is also available from the Headington Library Enquiry Desk. Internal staff and students will be asked to show their University ID card, and external applicants should bring proof of address

Applicants are bound by the Reading Room regulations .

The Reading Room is open between 1pm and 5pm, Monday to Friday, during the University semesters (dates available here ) and researchers can visit by prior appointment outside these times; Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.
