Scope and Content

This collection of Llangefni parish records consists of books and papers. Books include poor rate books, highway rate books, weekly payments to the poor and sundry disbursements books, collector's monthly statement books (rates), parish receipt and payment book, collecting and deposit books and other miscellaneous items.

Those grouped as papers include bastardy papers, apprenticeship papers, settlement and removal records, letters to the overseers of the poor on behalf of persons seeking relief, parish and overseers accounts, lists of outdoor poor (parish and union) and miscellaneous parochial papers including elections of select vestries, notices to quit, receipts and vouchers and copies of income tax assessments.

Administrative / Biographical History

Llangefni parish is located in the county of Anglesey. During the period of these records it was administered as part of Anglesey Union and Anglesey Petty Sessional Division.

Material has been arranged according to type, then chronologically and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .

Custodial History

Llangefni parish records (1717-1875) were contained in the parish chest in the parish church tower and deposited in 1950 by the rector, the Reverend Canon Evan Jones, in the library of the University College of North Wales, Bangor.
