Papers relating to The Reform of Local Government in Wales : Consultative Document, including comments on the proposal by the city of Bangor council and a report of a conference of local authorities.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Local Government Act of 1972 came into effect on 1 April 1974. According to Brian Barber, writing in the Society of Archivists Diploma Training Manual, The urban and rural district, municipal and the county borough councils were abolished and larger districts were created. These were given responsibility for housing, local planning, minor roads, parks, museums and galleries, refuse collection and public health inspection.
