The Phillipps Manuscripts at University College London were given to the College by the German government in 1912.

Paper manuscripts bound in light blue boards. Each manuscript is in a single hand except for (1), in at least two hands, and (7), in two hands. Folio.

Custodial History

The manuscripts belonged to Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872), baronet, an antiquary and bibliophile whose collection included c60,000 manuscripts of various kinds, some relating to the administration of Swiss towns. Various manuscripts were sold after Sir Thomas's death, some to the German government, and were dispersed to several libraries. Formerly Phillipps MSS (numbers (1)-(7) were respectively 3444, 3445, 3450, 3454, 3455, 3463, 3468); numbers (1b), (2), (8) and (9) were Engel MSS.
