The papers are mostly concerned with the History of Christianity, particularly as it pertains to the City of Bristol. There is also a substantial amount of correspondence and printed material, as well as compiled notes, on the subjects of theology, geology, mathematics, astronomy, and biblical studies. The collection also contains a number of legal documents including early mediaeval deeds and wills.

The Pocock collection consists of the amassed theological, historical, and scientific writings and research of three generations of the Pocock family throughout the 19th Century. As well as the material held here, there is also further material donated by the Pocock family in DMs 412, 928, 930, and 1314.
