The collection includes all Causley's literary manuscripts, including his notebooks, with the exception of some early manuscripts which went to the University of Buffalo in the early 1950s. No letters or personal papers are included.

Administrative / Biographical History
Causley, the only son of Charles Causley and Laura Bartlett, was born in Launceston and educated at Launceston National School, Horwell Grammar School, Launceston College and Peterborough Training College. During the Second World War he served in the Communications Branch of the Royal Navy. After the War he wrote many volumes of verse, and received a number of honours. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for Literature in 1958, and received an Hon DLitt from the University of Exeter in 1977.

Custodial History
The first deposit of papers was made in 1970, and a provisional catalogue of this made in 1973. A second deposit was made in 1986. These constituted a donation, but as yet have not been listed.
