The large quarto volume is the Society's first minute book, 1843-55. The two notebooks are a volume of subscription and Transactions sales accounts 1842-66, and a postage account book 1846-88.

Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Exeter Diocesan Architectural Society was established in 1841 to report on the fabric of the churches of Devon and also to approve designs for new churches. It later proudly boasted that it was 'the first of its kind in the kingdom' ('The title of our society' a paper read by the Rev'd Stanhope Nourse, 1911). Its first annual report was read on 7 April 1842. Volume one of its Transactions was published in 1843, and the second volume appeared in 1847. It later changed its title to the Exeter Diocesan Architectural and Archaeological Society, and continued under this title until it folded in the 1930s. The last volume of Transactions was published in 1933.

The documents were found in the basement of the Roborough Library 'among debris of the EDAS' some time before 1999 (note in front of vol).
