Collection of negatives of various subjects and individuals by staff photographer Edward (Ted) Hamilton West taken for the Guardian newspaper.

Administrative / Biographical History

At the age of 15 Edward (Ted) Hamilton West joined the Evening Standard as a messenger and later went on to work as dark room assistant. He was given his first job as a photographer by Barrett's photographic agency. In 1962 he joined the Central Press Agency. In 1970 he moved to the Guardian and remained there until his retirement in 1996. His byline at the Guardian was always E Hamilton West.

Arrangement

These negatives were removed from the main picture library subject and portrait sequences prior to transfer to the archive, and this order has been retained:

  • EHW/1 - portraits
     EHW/2 - subjects
