Senior Staff-Megna Jute Mills, MS 308/2/1
The collection contains:
John Miln worked for Mackinnon Mackenzie at their Megna Jute Mill in West Bengal, India. His son Kenneth (Ken) Miln was born on 22 July 1937 in Durban, South Africa, where John and his wife Elizabeth (both from Dundee), were on leave from India. After school Kenneth served an engineering apprenticeship with James F. Low, Monifieth, Scotland, working on the manufacture of jute mill process machinery. In 1959 he returned to India on behalf of Low's to install and commission machinery at mills in the Calcutta area. He served over six years between India and Pakistan in the jute industry, over sixteen years in Africa involved with natural-fibre processing and projects management (jute, sisal and coir), and three years as works manager of Ogilvy Bros jute mill, Kirriemuir, Scotland. He also helped to set up the jute machines in Verdant Works, Dundee. In 1995-1996 Kenneth took the modern colour photographs of jute mill machinery (mainly of James Mackie origin) at a jute mill near Czestochowa, Poland, which was in the process of closing down.

The photographs and postcards from India, and the year book, were held by John Miln. They then passed to his son, Kenneth (Ken), who added the remaining items.
