Transcript of the Panmure MS 1895; related notes, photographs and correspondence 1895-1960.

Alexander Hutcheson of Herschel House, Broughty Ferry, was an amateur antiquary and a pioneer in the study of old Scottish song-books. In 1895 he transcribed the words, though not the music, from Robert Edward's Commonplace Book which dates from the end of the seventeenth century. Edward, its compiler, was minister of Murroes, and was the man responsible for the first printed description of Forfarshire. His musical commonplace book is one of the collection of early Scottish Music books in the possession of Lord Dalhousie.
