Scope and Content

Miscellaneous documents relating to World War I and in particular to Private James Braid, Captain Patrick Duncan, William Cuthill and Captain John (Jack) Macqueen, including war poetry, correspondence, military documents, photographs, and maps and plans, 1914-1919.

Administrative / Biographical History

Hilda D. Spear, ne King, (1926-), B.A., M.A., Ph.D. was educated at Harrow County Girls' School, Furzedown College, Birkbeck College, London University, and Leicester University. She taught at Purdue University, USA, and at Leicester University before being appointed to the English Department at Dundee University (1969). She retired from the Senior Lectureship in 1993 in 2003 was an Honorary Research Fellow.

The records were deposited by Hilda Spear between 1993 and 1996.

An exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of the ending of the First World War was designed by Hilda Spear and mounted by Dundee University Archives in 1993.
