Scope and Content

Minute book containing minutes of directors' meetings, 13 Apr 1816 - 15 Dec 1855. The volume also contains minutes of Old Aberdeen Town Council, regarding disbursement of closing funds, 14 Feb 1860; rules and regulations, 1816 and 1822; a draft scheme for administering a Female Sick Fund, n.d.; and unemployed relief payments book, d. 1855.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Bank was instituted on 13 Apr 1816 by the Parishioners of Old Machar parish, Aberdeen. It's object, as stated in the Rules and Regulations was to encourage the deposit of small sums which a bank will not receive, and which might otherwise be squandered away, unsafely deposited, or lost altogether (GB 231 MS 638). It was wound up in 1855.
