Administrative / Biographical History

William John Gruffydd was born in 1881 in the parish of Llanddeiniolen, Caernarfonshire. He received his education at Jesus College, Oxford and became a renowned poet, scholar and critic. He married Gwenda Evans in 1909 and was elected in the 1943 bye-election as M.P. for the University of Wales seat - a seat which he held until 1950 when parliamentary representation of the Universities was abolished. He died in 1954.
