Scope and Content

Comprises wills, administrations, inventories etc., transcribed by Bob Owen, c. 1930's, from material, dated 1634 to 1831, held at the Bangor Probate Office. Material relates mainly to parishes around the Merioneth-Caernarfonshire border and in particular the Ardudwy and Llanfachreth-Dolgellau areas as well as the uplands of Dolwyddelan and Penmachno and the shipping activities of old Barmouth. Also includes material relating to wills in the Anglesey parishes of Aberffraw and Llangadwaladr. There are also 3 indexes relating to this material by Bob Owen compiled by Thomas Richards, librarian at the University of Wales, Bangor.

Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Owen, MA, OBE, (1885-1962), better known as Bob Owen Croesor of Llanfrothen in Merioneth, north Wales, was a quarry worker at Croesor, an antiquary and a book and manuscript collector, who lectured, broadcast and contributed articles on Welsh history and genealogy to many publications.
