Plas Newydd is the Anglesey residence of the Marquess of Anglesey.

The first Marquess of Anglesey was Henry William Paget, the Earl of Uxbridge. The title was his reward in 1814 for his military achievements on the field of Waterloo where he lost a leg.

The 5th Marquess nearly destroyed the estate financially. He died at the age of 29 years and the estate passed to his cousin, Charles Henry Alexander Paget. He made considerable changes in order to try and secure the estate. He died in 1947 and left the estate to his son and heir, who became the 7th Marquess. He eventually gave Plas Newydd to the National Trust.

As well as owning lands in North Wales, the Marquess of Anglesey was also a substantial landowner in Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Dorset, Somerset and Ireland.
