Scope and Content

Manuscripts consisting of the letters, bills and accounts of Owen Williams as a corn merchant, including names of ships and their captains. The papers also touch upon religious and family matters.

Administrative / Biographical History

Very little biographical information is available regarding Owen Williams of Gaerwen Uchaf, Anglesey. He was a corn merchant who had workers loading corn for him at various locations on the island and his business brought him into contact with the corn market firms of Chester and Liverpool.

According to the original cataloguer of his manuscripts, Thomas Richards, he was undoubtedly a regular contributor to the Bible Society in Anglesey between 1814 and 1843. He had two brothers, John and William.

Items bound into two volumes and mostly arranged according to topic and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts
