Letters and essay of Owen Evans, Denbigh

Scope and Content

An essay by Owen Evans on the subject of the life and times of Twm o'r Nant, composer of ballads, written for entry in a competition in the National Eisteddfod in Colwyn Bay in 1910, along with a letter from the adjudicator, Llew Llwyfo. Also, 65 letters addressed to Owen Evans from various correspondents - book collectors, theologians and linguists such as Sir John Ballinger, T. Llechid Jones, Marcus Dods, Sir John Morris-Jones, O.M. Edwards, T. Gwynn Jones and Daniel Owen, the novelist from Mold, to name but a few.

Administrative / Biographical History

Very little biographical information was available regarding Rev. Owen Evans of Chapel Street, Denbigh at time of compilation of description, other than that he published two Welsh books, namely Hanes cychwyniad a chynnydd Methodistiaeth Calfinaidd yn Nhref Dinbych (1897?) and Dinbych yn ei hynafiaeth a'i henwogion (1907).
