Madoc Jones Family Papers

Scope and Content

Comprises:

  • Letters, reminiscences, photographs, bills, timetable of lectures, and exam material relating to the period when Miss Enid Elizabeth Jones was a student at the Sorbonne in Paris, 1923-4.
  • Material relating to the staff of educational institutions with which the family was associated including Beaumaris Grammar School, the Universities of Wales at Aberystwyth and Bangor. This comprises articles etc relating to Beaumaris Grammar School, and personnel associated with the school, 1900-83; commemorative material relating to significant events at the Universities of Wales at Aberystwyth and Bangor, 1896-1911; photocopies of letters, and press cuttings relating to staff associated with the University of Wales, Bangor, who corresponded with the Madoc Jones family, 1895-1973.
  • Documents relating to Beaumaris and the religious revival of 1904-1905 and to Dr E.R. Thomas of Beaumaris who acted as host to Evan Roberts the evangelist during his visit to Anglesey, ca. 1904-83

Administrative / Biographical History

Enid Elizabeth Madoc Jones of Old Colwyn, north Wales, was a student at the University College of North Wales, Bangor from 1920 to 1923. After graduating in 1923, Miss Jones spent a period from 1923-4 studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. She gained an MA from university college, Bangor in 1929.

Other notable family members are Evan Madoc Jones and Geraint Madoc Jones. Evan Madoc Jones, who died in 1953, was former headmaster of Beaumaris Grammar School, Anglesey. David Hughes founded this school around 1604.

Material was received on separate occasions, arranged in chronological order and incorporated into the General Collection of Bangor Manuscripts .
