Scope and Content

Note-book consisting of the work of Ieuan Glan Geirionydd - theological observations and copies of old cywyddau by various poets. Also, accounts written by Robert Evans including a description of his accident in 1841 and a reference to the death of Mrs Evan Evans in 1847.

Administrative / Biographical History

Evan Evans, priest and poet, was born in 1795 in Trefriw, Caernarfonshire. Better known by his bardic name, Ieuan Glan Geirionydd, he became a teacher and won the chair at the Wrexham National Eisteddfod in 1820 before being ordained and receiving the curacies of Christelton, Ince and Rhyl consecutively. He died in 1855.His father, Robert Evans, was also a poet and a pastoral writer
