Scope and Content

Contains: (1) f.1r: the title: Of that praesupposed libertie, whereby divers are perswaded, that for adulterie they may divorce their wives, and marry others. Wherein is declared, That although divers be so perswaded, yet hath that perswasion of theirs no undoubted warrant in the Word of God, By Edm. Bunny; (2) f.3r: Dedication to Matthew, archbishop of York; (3) ff.4-8: The Preface, dated Bolton Percy, December 13, 1595; (4) f.8v: "The Table of Method is set in ye end" [actually the Table does not appear in the manuscript]; (5) ff.9-62: the text of the work, with headlines "Of divorce for adultery and marying again".

Administrative / Biographical History

Edmund Bunny, who was chaplain to Grindal, archbishop of York, sub-dean of York, and Rector of Bolton Percy for twenty-five years, became an itinerant preacher and evangelist. He died at Cawood 26 February 1618/9, and is buried in York Minster.
