Administrative / Biographical History

The Bailiwick of Guernsey is part of the British Isles, but not part of the United Kingdom in terms of legal jurisdiction. The common law of Guernsey derives, with some modifications, from the customary law of Normandy. The jurats are local men, elected by the States of Guernsey, to serve as a permanent jury in the Royal Court, under the presidency of the Bailiff
