      1 vol. ([2], 241, [6] pp., remainder blank) and 13 plates with a list of plates and 12 letters in 1 envelope The volume is bound with a leather spine lettered in gilt: INDIAN DESMIDIEAE: WALLICH: 1885. The envelope is addressed to Mr W. B. Turner, 49 Reginald Terrace, Leeds, and postmarked "Leeds, 29 March [18]94".

Scope and Content

The Wallich volume includes a list of his books and papers on scientific subjects written between 1858 and 1883 dated 29 December 1884. The envelope contains correspondence between Turner and Thomas Wiltshire (for the Ray Society), and between Turner and Taylor Bros of Leeds, the printers; also a letter from General Sir Henry F. Ponsonby "to express The Queen's regret, that Her Majesty is unable to accept the dedication of the work"

William Barwell Turner was a botanist and expert on the Desmidieae. He became President of the Leeds Naturalists' Club in 1881

The monograph was accepted by the Ray Society, but the production was not proceeded with. Subsequently, 1904-23, a monograph by West, West and Carter in 5 vols. was produced (Nos. 82 etc).
