Scope and Content

Wight's musical collection comprises many volumes written by John Awbery, Fellow of New College, Oxford, and many of which had been owned or annotated by William and Philip Hayes. Such as are not connected with Oxford musicians are largely either English songs or Italian compositions.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev. Osborne Wight matriculated at Oriel College, Oxford, on 17 October 1771, and took his BA degree from New College in 1776 (MA 1780). He was Fellow of New College, and died in 1800.

Access Information

Entry to read in the Library is permitted only on presentation of a valid reader's card (for admissions procedures see http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/specialcollections).

Acquisition Information

By his will Wight appears to have left some specified volumes to a Mr Swanton, and to have allowed the Library to select what it desired, both of printed and manuscript matter, from the rest. These 209 manuscripts appear to have thus come in the year 1801.
