Contributor Training
Contributing Workshops
We have face-to-face and remote workshops for our contributors and potential contributors.
- Face-to-face workshops are in training rooms and offer hands-on experience
- Remote workshops are offered through Zoom or a similar online platform and are shorter sessions.
Our data is in EAD format, but these sessions are not about EAD, and they are generally aimed at beginners or those needing a refresher on contributing.
In addition, we provide training videos on our YouTube channel.
All sessions are advertised on our Archives Hub Contiributors jiscmail list.
Please email us for further information. All sessions are advertised through the contributors' email list. Please let us know if you would like to be added to the list.
Topics for each workshop vary, but include:
- Adding digital objects
- Adding index terms
- The principles of good online descriptions
- Exporting from archival software such as CALM and AdLib
- Creating and editing your repository description
- An introduction to the Archives Portal Europe
If you can provide a venue with PCs, then we may be able to run a workshop at your institution.
Development and Innovation Days
We have run a number of days designed to update contributors on what the Archives Hub team are up to, with latest innovations and developments, sharing experience and explaining some of the challenges of data processing for an aggregator.
Some feedback from Development and Innovation days:
" I felt the day was really interesting and very useful. A really lovely opportunity to meet all the Hub staff (you are all so friendly and welcoming). I would really recommend this day to other Hub users." (University contributor)
"I really enjoyed it as it gave an overview of the bigger picture and gave and intriguing insight into how collection data is managed and processed behind the scenes. I quite liked all the technical stuff and thinking about how data operability works and how machines ‘think’ very differently from humans" (Specialist repository contributor)
" I get all your lovely emails, but sometimes you cant beat a bit of face-time, to really get to grips with what's actually happening somewhere and how you can get involved." (University contributor)
Some feedback from previous training sessions:
"[the Hub team] were warm and friendly and extremely helpful."
"‘It’s the first online training I’ve ever done and I thought it was excellent technology-wise – it all felt very smooth and efficient. And as for the content, I felt it was pitched at just the right level.’"
"very relevant and excellently taught - perfectly pitched"
“As a general introduction to Archives Hub it was invaluable. The opportunity to be taken through the process of inputting data was great."
“This was excellent as an introduction to the Hub. It was great to hear all about the developments happening. I need to get my collections on the Hub ASAP! Thank you.”
“Really useful and engaging.”
"This was a fantastic workshop - excellently designed resources, Lisa and Jane were really helpful (and patient!). The hands-on aspect was really useful: I now feel quite confident about creating EAD records for the Hub, and even more confident that the Hub team are on hand with online help."
