Bournemouth University

Bournemouth University's Research Collections exist to support the research effort of the University Schools and to secure where possible, through the quality or uniqueness of collections, distinction within the higher education community. The Research Collections were established in about 1995 and can be viewed in the Special Collections Room which is located in the award winning The Sir Michael Cobham Library on the University's Talbot Campus. The University's collections are focused on Media History, Dorset History and Archaeology. The University will consider further donations in these areas. A copy of the Research Collections Policy is available on request.

The University has deposited records on the Archives Hub for various materials it holds, including the Independent Television Authority/Independent Broadcasting Authority (ITA/IBA)/Cable Authority Archive, donated to the University by OFCOM in 2008 and the University’s BBC Radio 4 Analysis material. The se examples form part of the University's Media History Collection, which focuses on all aspects of Media History in the United Kingdom from 1920's to the present day. Also held are the Arthur Brown Collection, featuring printed material relating to riots and civil disobedience in the UK 1976-2000, the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society Collection and the Wedlake and Greening Collection of archaeology books and pamphlets.

The University provides access to Research Collections for bona fide researchers from other institutions. Researchers will require a letter of introduction, proof of identity and to have agreed a prior appointment. Special procedures are in place for accessing the ITA/IBA/Cable Authority archive which are outlined in the University's Special Collections pages below.
