Scope and Content

The collection contains manuscript and printed pamphlets, edicts, posters, handbills, broadsheets, decrees and ephemera, largely in Spanish, mostly dating from the period of the Peninsular War, covering the process against Godoy; the abdication of Charles IV and Ferdinand VII; the designation of Joseph Bonaparte as King of Spain; the repression following the uprising of 2 May 1808; the creation of the provincial juntas; the establishment of the Junta Suprema Central at Aranjuez in September 1808, its transfer to Seville, the Isle of Leon and Cadiz; the summoning of the extraordinary Cortes and its work, transfer to Madrid, negotiations for peace with France; the return of Ferdinand VII to Spain; and the Liberals during the period 1820-3.
