Administrative / Biographical History

Israel Meir Lask was a free-lance journalist and translator, working in Palestine from 1930, contributing to publications including DAVOR, the PALESTINE WEEKLY, the PALESTINE POST and the PALESTINE TRIBUNE. His translations included an adaptation of A.S. Friedberg's PRINCES IN ISRAEL; OR RECORDS OF THE HOUSE OF DAVID (London, 1931) and works by M.Smilanski PALESTINE CARAVAN (London, 1935); S.J.`Aghnon THE BRIDAL CANOPY (Garden City, N.Y., 1937) and IN THE HEART OF SEAS (New York, 1948). His sister, Beth Zion (Roochel) Lask, historian, was a member of the Council of the JHSE. Her publications included, as Rachel Abrahams, THE JEWS IN ENGLAND: A HISTORY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE (London, 1950; second edition, 1969); `Stanislaus Hoga: apostate and penitent' TRANS. JHSE 15 (1946) pp. 121 49; `Grace Aguilar: a centenary tribute' TRAMS. JHSE 16 (1952) pp. 137 48; and `Emanuel Deutsch of THE TALMUD fame' TRANS. JHSE 23 (1970) pp. 53-63. She married Abraham Abrahams, poet, administrator and bookseller. He worked for the JTA in New York in 1932 and the World Congress of the Union of Zionist Revisionists, between 1930 and 1937, joining their executive committee in 1931. His publications included POEMS (London, 1932) and BACKGROUND OF UNREST: PALESTINE JOURNEY 1944 (London, 1945).
